Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do you have a waiting list?
A. Yes, we do have a waiting list. The school prefers to admit children at age six for our Elementary program. Older students will be considered on an individual basis as space allows with preference given to students with previous Montessori experience. The school also takes into consideration indications that the Montessori experience is a preferred method of instruction for the family and the student.
Q: How do I place my child on the waiting list?
A: Your child will be placed in our active list once we receive an admissions application with the application fee. You will be notified by email or phone if we are able to place your child. In the case that no space is available we can place your child on our waiting list.

Q: What is the tuition?
A: The tuition at each level is different. Please refer to the Admissions page for the tuition and fee schedule.
Q: How many children can be in a class?
A: AMI recommends a class size between 28 and 35 children. Our communities never exceed the upper limit. A qualified teacher with AMI training guides each class along with the help of an assistant.
Q: What is AMI?
A: The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) was established in 1929 by Dr. Maria Montessori to maintain, propagate, and further her ideas and principles for the full development of the human being. With headquarters in Amsterdam, Netherlands they are the recognized authority for those interested in applying the Montessori approach at multiple levels.
Q: Is this a year round program?
A: We offer a 9 ½ month program, beginning the last week of August and continuing through to mid-June. Our Primary program (aged 3-6) is a year-round program.
Q: Can my child come three days a week?
A: In our community, children do best with a regular schedule that they can predict. Therefore, all of our programs are full, 5-day programs.
Q: Do you have a kindergarten program?
A: Classes at T.I.M.E.S. are in a three to six year cycle in order to best follow the child’s development. The traditional ‘kindergarten’ would be the vitally important third and final year in the Primary community. The following year would be the first year of the Elementary cycle.
Q: What is the best age to start a child in Montessori?
A: In the Primary program, 3 to 3 1/2 years of age. Toddler program begins at 2 years of age.
Q: How hard is it to transition a child from Montessori to a traditional school program?
A: Our children do best remaining in the Montessori program through middle school. The characteristics and skills that your children develop in a new Montessori community will stay with them for life and will carry them into a new environment with strength of character and confidence. However, our children also transition smoothly into local public schools, private schools or international schools in Taiwan. In addition to Montessori, International Baccalaureate program is recommended due to its many similarities with the Montessori approach.

A: For international families not currently in Taiwan, an online interview can be arranged. Please contact us for further information.
Q: Is there a school bus?
A: While we don’t offer a school bus service, we encourage parents to coordinate pick-up and drop-off. This approach fosters a close-knit community and allows parents to be actively involved in their children’s education.
Q: What are the entrance requirements?
A:While a basic understanding of English and previous Montessori experience can be beneficial, they’re not compulsory. We value and prioritize families who show a commitment to the Montessori philosophy, as it extends beyond the school environment into the home culture. This approach helps create a consistent and supportive learning experience for your child.
Q: How do I know if Montessori is right for my child?
A: Montessori might be a great fit for your child if you identify with the following:
- I feel comfortable letting my child learn at their own pace, even when they appear to be “falling behind”.
- I value problem solving, critical thinking, practical life and interpersonal skills over academic grades.
- I do not reward my child with stickers, points or toys.
- I respect my child, but I also set firm boundaries and will not give in when my child is crying or acting out.
- I do not believe that children should be pushed to memorize facts, or have to compare and compete in order to be successful.
These principles align with the Montessori philosophy, promoting a well-rounded and positive educational experience.
Q: What to look for in a Montessori classroom?
A: Finding the right Montessori classroom for your child involves observing specific characteristics:
- Active Interaction: Children are free to walk around, engage with others, and ask questions. A lively and interactive atmosphere is encouraged.
- Real and Practical Environment: The setting is grounded in reality, with no toys or fantasy characters, promoting practical learning.
- Diverse Learning Materials: Look for a wide variety of materials covering subjects like Math, English Language, Chinese Language, Biology, Geography, History, Music and Art.
- Child Accessibility: The classroom design should be accessible to children, allowing them to explore and learn independently.
- Hands-On, Self-Directed Learning: Children are encouraged to learn through hands-on experiences, guiding their own learning journey.
- Mixed Age Classroom: A blend of different ages fosters peer learning and social development.
These features create a nurturing environment that aligns with Montessori principles, supporting your child’s growth and development.
